The 2010 Census shows that from 2006 to 2010 the Buda’s population grew 49 percent from 4,904 to 7,295 residents. State planners project the population is Buda to grow to 50,000 residents in the next 20 years.
So why are so many people moving to Buda? The first place to look to answer this question is the economy in Austin, Tx. Austin has added 30,000 jobs per year over the past 3 years. Over 40,000 people are moving to Austin each year, creating a shortage of available housing. The combination of a low supply of housing and huge demand has caused housing prices in Austin to rise dramatically. The average home value increased by 7% city-wide in Austin last year. These market dynamics are causing home buyers to look to surrounding communities like Buda to meet their housing needs. The result has been an explosion of housing development in the city of Buda.
