March Events in Austin Texas

Posted by James DeLoney on Friday, March 1st, 2013 at 11:33am.

March has finally arrived.  This is my favorite month in Austin, Texas.  The city really comes to life this time of year.  This month starts of with the Grand Am Races this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas track.  This a much more low-key event than the F1 Race with lower ticket prices and smaller crowds.  So if you haven’t made it out the track to experience Austin’s world class racing venue this weekend is the perfect opportunity.

This Sunday March 3rd is the 85th Annual Zilker Kite Festival at Zilker Park. This is one of my favorite Austin festivals and a great event for families to enjoy this weekend’s gorgeous weather.

SXSW 2013 kicks off on March 8th and runs through the March 17th.  The SXSW free concert series at Auditorium Shores released this year’s schedule of artist.  The Flaming Lips will headline Friday night March 15th.  I saw these guys at ACL and this band puts on in amazing performance.  If you’ve never had a chance to see these guys live you should make plans to catch them at this year’s free show.  The Saturday night lineup at Auditorium Shores features Austin, Texas’ own Los Lonely Boys, followed by jam band favorites Robert Randolph and The Family Band, and the headliner The Midnight Ramble Band.

Rodeo Austin runs from March 8th-March 23rd so there is plenty of opportunities to enjoy all the excitement of the rodeo events,  live music, and family entertainment that the Austin Rodeo provides.  One of my favorite events at Rodeo Austin is the BBQ Cook-Off which will be held March 13th-15th.
